Tinnitus

If you hear a persistent ringing, buzzing, or humming sound that others around you cannot, you probably have tinnitus — a condition that is almost always manageable once properly assessed. Our Tinnitus Consultation gives you a clear picture of what is happening as well as what you can do about it.

You are not imagining it, and you are not alone

Tinnitus is the experience of hearing sounds — often described as ringing, whistling, or whooshing — that come from inside the ear rather than the outside world. It can range from mildly distracting to genuinely disruptive, affecting your sleep, your concentration, and your ability to follow conversations.

Many people put off getting help because they assume nothing can be done. That is not the case. Understanding exactly what is driving your tinnitus is the first step toward managing it effectively, and that starts with a thorough assessment.

What a tinnitus consultation covers

A full hearing evaluation

Tinnitus and hearing loss frequently go hand in hand, though not always. Your assessment includes a complete hearing test to establish whether any degree of hearing loss is present and how it may be contributing to what you are experiencing.

Tinnitus profiling

Your audiologist will measure the specific characteristics of your tinnitus to determine which aspects are the most challenging to your day-to-day life. This gives you a precise, personal picture rather than a general guess.

Clear explanation

You will leave with a full understanding of what your results mean. If further support or treatment is recommended, your audiologist will walk you through your options in plain language, without pressure.

A plan that fits your life

No two people experience tinnitus in the same way. Your assessment concludes with personalised guidance based on your results, your lifestyle, and your goals — not a one-size-fits-all answer.

1. Book your appointment

Choose a time that suits you. Appointments are available at flexible times to fit around your schedule.

2. Arrive and talk

Your audiologist will begin by listening to you talk about your tinnitus — what your symptoms are, how long you have had them, and how they are affecting your daily life. There are no wrong answers.

3. Complete your assessment

A series of simple, non-invasive tests will be carried out. None of them are uncomfortable, and your audiologist will explain each one before it begins.

4. Review your results together

Once testing is complete, your audiologist will go through your results with you clearly and honestly, including what they mean and what options are available to you.

5. Leave with a clear next step

Whether that means a management plan, a referral, or simply reassurance, you will know exactly where you stand before you leave.

Take the first step towards quieter days

You don’t have to suffer in silence. Taking the step to get your tinnitus assessed will give you the understanding you need, as well as a clear, realistic path forward. Book your tinnitus assessment today and find out what is possible.

Common questions about tinnitus

In most cases tinnitus is not a sign of a serious underlying condition. That said, it is always worth having it properly assessed, particularly if it is new, affects only one ear, or is accompanied by dizziness or hearing loss. Getting your tinnitus assessed means you can stop wondering and start understanding.

We allow 90 minutes for our Tinnitus consultation appointments. This gives your audiologist enough time to carry out all relevant tests and discuss your results with you properly, with plenty of time for you to ask any questions you have.

There is currently no single cure for tinnitus, but there are well-established approaches that can significantly reduce how much it affects you. These include sound therapy, hearing aids (when hearing loss is also present), and counselling-based techniques. Your assessment will determine which approaches are most likely to help in your specific case.
