Hearing in Noise

Are you having problems hearing in background noise? We are proud to work with Lace AI to offer a comprehensive programme of auditory training to help your brain hear better – whether you wear hearing aids, or not.

Hearing in noise - why is it so difficult?

Have you ever struggled to hear someone at a party? How about in a noisy restaurant? Or maybe you have problems hearing your family while the TV is on, or while the kettle is boiling in the kitchen?

We hear with our brain, not just our ears. When there is background noise, your brain has to work harder to fill in the gaps and filter out the sounds you do not want to hear. This extra mental effort is often why following a conversation can leave you feeling tired.

Whether you wear hearing aids, have a mild hearing decline, or simply struggle with background noise despite having normal hearing, this programme adapts to help you hear better through practising four specific areas of listening skills. With a little regular practice this training will help you feel much more confident and comfortable when speaking to family, friends or colleagues – no matter how noisy the room might be.

Speech in noise

Do you find it difficult to follow a conversation when there is chatter in the background? Struggling to hear in busy places can be incredibly frustrating, which is why it is the main focus of the Lace AI auditory training programme.

By regularly completing the exercises (recorded conversations mixed with different levels of everyday sound), you gradually train your brain to pick out spoken words more clearly, helping it get better at ignoring background clatter so you can focus on the voice you actually want to hear.

Rapid speech

Do you find it difficult to keep up when someone speaks very quickly? It is incredibly common to feel left behind by fast talkers, even if you have normal hearing, or when your hearing aids are working perfectly.

The rapid speech training module within the LACE AI programme works by gently encouraging your brain to process faster sounds in a safe, quiet environment. You will listen to sentences that are spoken slightly quicker than normal, which helps your mind practice catching those quick words without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

Missing word

Do you often find yourself following a conversation perfectly, only to completely miss a single crucial word?

When background noise interrupts what you hear, your brain has to work hard to guess the missing pieces. This is where the ‘missing word’ component of your Neurotone LACE AI auditory training steps in to help. This specific exercise plays recorded sentences with small parts removed, encouraging your brain to practice filling in the blanks automatically based on the context of the sentence.

Working memory

Have you ever found yourself losing track of a conversation halfway through a sentence, especially when you are in a busy room?

That often happens because following speech takes real mental effort, relying heavily on your “working memory” – your brain’s short-term ability to hold and process sounds while you listen. As one of the four main pillars of the Neurotone LACE AI auditory training, this specific exercise is designed to gently strengthen that mental muscle.

How to improve your hearing from home

Not at all. While the programme is excellent for helping new hearing aid users adjust to amplified sound, it is equally effective if you do not wear them. Lace AI is highly recommended if you have normal hearing but struggle to process sounds in noisy environments, or if you have a mild hearing loss and do not feel ready for hearing aids just yet.

Not at all! Lace AI is designed to be very easy to use. You can access it from your own computer, tablet or even mobile phone. The exercises are straightforward and clearly explained so that everyone can take part in them.

Yes. Because hearing happens in the brain, improving how your brain processes sound directly improves your ability to understand speech. It helps to reduce the fatigue you feel when listening meaning that you can connect more easily with your loved ones.
