What to expect from your hearing assessment
While we understand that you may be nervous about coming to see us for a hearing test, we will do our best to make you feel comfortable and well supported. Our proiority is always to understand what is important to you – whether you need to hear well in meetings at work, or want to be able to hear birdsong while sat in your garden at home we can help
Our difference
At Zest Hearing Care our hearing assessments are carefully designed to give you a detailed understanding of your hearing, as well as our recommendations for the next steps in your hearing journey.
1. You & your hearing
We understand that every person's hearing needs are different. Before beginning with any tests we will speak to you about your hearing, your ear health and, most importantly, your day to day life so that we can understand what is important to you.
2. Visual inspection
(Otoscopy)
We will use a small camera to look inside your ears, carefully inspecting for blockages, infections or any other visible concerns. The images will be visible on the computer screen if you would like to see them for yourself.
3. Middle ear assessment
(Tympanometry)
Your audiologist will use a small device to test how well your eardrums are moving to assess the function of your middle ear. This will detect problems such as a perforated eardrum or congestion in your middle ear.
4. Hearing test
(Audiometry)
This part of your appointment will assess what the quietest sound you can hear is at a range of different pitches. This will allow your audiologist to identify any particular weaknesses in your hearing profile that may help to explain the difficulties you have noticed in your everyday life.
5. Speech assessment in quiet
Do you know how much speech your ears are picking up compared to how much your brain is automatically "filling in"? This test will reveal just how much harder you are having to work to hear what other people take for granted every day.
6. Speech assessment in noise
Patients often find that they have significantly more difficulty hearing conversation in noisy locations compared to in quiet places. To identify just how much difficulty you are having in these situations this assessment takes a look at how easy you find it to understand a single voice amongst different levels of background noise.
7. Demonstration of amplification
If your hearing assessment has shown a deficit in your hearing ability your audiologist will demonstrate the potential improvement you can expect to experience with customised hearing technology. They will also discuss the variety of technology available and make some recommendations regarding which products would be the most suitable for your hearing requirements.
